Spiritual Hunger can Drive us to Our Knees

Every day I eat food.  Every day I get hungry, so I find food and eat it.  For me it is easy to find food.  We have plenty in our cupboards and fridge.  We are so blessed.

Carson (my 17 year old) goes to school in a neighborhood where there are a lot of homeless people. So he made them bags with food and supplies and some cash.  He has them in the car with him, so he can hand them out as needed.  I love that he does that.  I know that there are so many people who are hungry for food.  It feels good to share.

Every day I pray.  Every day I long for connection with God, so I pray for it and find it.

When I am spiritually hungry I turn to God through prayer, meditation or scripture study.  I get hungry every day.  God will feed us if we turn to Him.

I love part of the definition of prayer in the Bible Dictionary

The object of prayer is not to change the will of God but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is already willing to grant but that are made conditional on our asking for them. Blessings require some work or effort on our part before we can obtain them. Prayer is a form of work and is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings.

What are you hungry for?  Pray for it.  Maybe you need food in your pantry – pray and ask for it.   Maybe you need a friend – pray and ask for one.  Maybe you need to feel God’s love – pray and ask to feel it.

Ask.

“For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat.”
