Breathing seems to be a key in most meditations.
Focusing on your breathing connects your body and spirit.
I think of when a baby is born. It is that first breath that fully brings their spirit into their body. (I think their spirit comes and goes before that… this isn’t doctrine or science, just my intuition after working with pregnancy and birth over 10 years)
Breath is powerful and when we intentionally use it, it can help our spirit and body connect and communicate.
There are so many ways you can breathe. We have been practicing breathing in about 4 counts and breathing out about 4 counts, with a phrase of Breathe in Peace & Calm — Breathe out and Smile.
Square Breathing
There are 4 parts to each breath, though we often don’t notice 2 of the parts.
- Breathing in
- Pause
- Breathing out
- Pause
We don’t always notice the pauses.
There is something called Square Breathing.
- Breathe in for 4 seconds
- Pause for 4 seconds
- Breathe out for 4 seconds
- Pause for 4 seconds
Today:
Notice the pauses!
Let’s use the phrase we have been practicing with.
Breathe in Peace & Calm
Pause (2,3,4)
Breathe out and Smile
Pause (2,3,4)
Repeat 2-5 times.
