In Come Follow Me this week we studied 2 Corinthians 7:10 “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. “
In Essentials to Enjoy Life I have a whole class session that focuses on the vibration of words and we talk a lot about Godly Sorrow VS Shame.
Guilt is a tool
Guilt is neutral to me, it can be a useful tool. However if we let it take us to Shame, then it makes us want to hide and that keeps us trapped in our sin/challenge. When Guilt is a tool that leads us to Godly Sorrow, then we have hope, we search for help and we can more easily make positive changes.
I talk about this more deeply in this video I made a few years ago. The topic of this video focuses on supporting people whose loved ones are struggling with pornography. However the information could be used in many different scenarios.
Let Guilt remind you – there is a choice!
It is a neutral tool to let you know that you have done something against your values. Now you get to choose: Shame or Godly Sorrow.
I hope you choose hope and repentance.
Also this is so important to keep in mind, that shame is not a tool from God. Don’t shame others (“sorrow of the world”, it won’t help others to change. Teach them the difference of shame and Godly Sorrow.
