9. 5 Steps to Help you Neutralize the Crazy Energy Around Masks

If you had told me 6 months ago that people would be yelling at, spitting on or even shooting other people because of wearing masks I would have thought you were crazy.

I am a little nervous about sharing this podcast, because there are so many strong emotions around masks right now. But I felt God assure me that this neutralizing tool I am going to share can help the world have more peace.

I am not going to be convincing you of a “SIDE”, rather reminding you the power of having a neutral energy about a subject.

My hope is that as we hold whatever stance we have on masks from a place of neutrality, there can be greater peace and love in the world.

I hope I was so neutral as I talked on this podcast episode that you won’t even know what my “side” is.

I walk through the thoughts of 3 imaginary people from different perspectives of the mask issue and and how I would help them shift to neutral emotions about their and other peoples choices.

  • 1 who thinks all people should wear masks in public
  • 1 who thinks people shouldn’t wear masks in public
  • 1 who gets anxiety while wearing masks

I mentioned in my podcast that for some people doing these steps would be a good start, but they may need additional support.

Meditation

Meditation is a powerful tool to help us manage anxiety as well as our thoughts. It is something that I love to teach and I have a 6 day scripture meditation challenge you can sign up for by clicking here.

3×3 tool

My friend Katy from Be Still Services shared this tool on Facebook and I love it.

Get Still

Stand or Sit and pay attention to your posture and how both feet are pressing into the ground.

Notice your breathing, if possible, slow your breathing down. Breathe as deep as possible in a way that is comfortable for you.

Closing your eyes, if that is possible and feels safe, or if your eyes need to stay open, keep your gaze soft.

Name 3×3 things

  1. Name 3 physical sensations you notice. For example, I feel the heat on my face, I feel tingling in my toes, I feel my jacket on my shoulders.
  2. Name 3 things you hear. For example, I hear my son yawning, I hear the creaking of the floor, I hear the hum of the AC.
  3. Open your eyes if they are not already and name 3 things you see. For example: My Beyond Blessed pillow on the sofa, another pillow on the floor, my water bottle.

Am I safe?

Now that you have gone through these steps, pause and check in with yourself to see if you are safe.

Usually we are safe and are able to recognize that after doing this exercise. It helps us to get present so we can respond from this moment, instead of being stuck in the past.
